Born in Siberia, Russia. He started studying violin, his career meeting international success after winning the famous " Queen Elisabeth " Competition - Brussels. He has often been invited to perform with renowned orchestras such as those in Boston, Cleveland, San Francisco, the philharmonics of Los Angeles, Munich, Berlin, the Orchestra in Paris, Concertgebow - Amsterdam, Suisse Romande - Geneva, The St. Petersburg Philharmonic, La Scala in Milan etc. He collaborated with famous conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Semyon Bychkov, Riccardo Chailly, Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, James Levine, Neville Marriner, Kurt Masur, Zubin Mehta, Simon Rattle, Mstislav Rostropovici, Ghenadi Rojdestvensky, Iuri Temirkanov, David Zinman. He is also a permanent guest in renowned festivals such as Tanglewood, Ravinia, Gstaad, Rheinhau, BBC Proms etc. Interested by both classical and contemporary works, he has per - formed works by J. Adams (under the baton of the same compos - er)and Gubaidulina (with CBSO). Chamber music is also an impor - tant aspect in his career, his collaborations including personalities such as Martha Argerich, Yuri Bashmet, Mischa Maisky, Mikhail Pletnev in concerts in Paris, London, Brussels, Vienna, Tokyo. He has been invited to perform for royal guests at the wedding of Prince Willem Alexander, in the famous Concergebow. He has widely recorded for major record companies:Erato, Shostakovich and Prokofiev concerts (with Kent Nagano), Tchaikovsky and Sibelius (with LSO, conducted by Emmanuel Krivine), Mozart con - certs (with Vienna Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Yehudi Menuhin - ECHO Award for Classic Instrumentalist of the Year - 1999), works by Prokofiev, Ravel, Medtner (together with Boris Berezovski), Strauss, Stravinsky, Bartok, at Philips - concerts by Tchaikovsky, Miaskovsky (Kirov Orchestra, conducted by Valeri Gergiev). In 2003 he made a tour in the US (also at Carnegie Hall), in New Zealand etc. He performs on a 1708 Stradivarius " Ruby " violin.
