SARAH BRIGHTMAN

Born in Berkhampstead, England, she began dancing at the age of 3, and seven years later made her debut at the famous Piccadilly Theatre - London. She was a dancer on TV series, became a member of the pop group " Hot Gossip " and, in 1981, she was cast in the role of Jemima in Andrew Lloyd Webber 's Cats , composer whom she married in 1984;she created the main roles in his works - Phantom of the Opera (first in London, then on Broadway), Requiem , Aspects of Love , participating in a great tour in which she exclusively sang her ex - husband 's music, from which she separated in 1990. She had concerts on the great opera stages, in theatres and arenas from Europe, Canada, America, Japan, col - laborating with renowned conductors and orchestras. In 1992 she performed at the Barcelona Olympic Games together with José Carreras, then in Japan, in a classical music concert with Placido Domingo. She recorded a number of solo albums, the most recent being Harem , which includes songs inspired from the Middle East music and myths, collaborating even with soloists of the same area and with the violinist Nigel Kennedy. Her CDs often reached the British top. She performed together with José Cura, and the duet Time to Say Goodbye by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli became famous, the album being the best sold ever in Germany. Part of her albums were awarded several prizes. She was nominat - ed for the Grammy Award for " the best classical artist " for Requiem recorded at EMI, the famous record company with which she signed an exclusive contract.
