POMPEIU HARASTEANU

Born in Gheorghieni, Romania, he graduated from the canto section of the Music National University in Bucharest with professors Petre Stefanescu - Goanga and Constantin Stroescu. He won the following competitions:" Ferenc Erkel " - Budapest, s 'Herzogenbosch - The Netherlands, " Francesco Viñas " - Barcelona, " George Enescu " - Bucharest. He made his debut in 1957 in the Mozart Mass in C major, together with the Radio Orchestra. His first opera part was in Wagner 's Tannhäuser, at the National Opera in Bucharest. Between 1968 - 1972 he per - formed at the Opera in Bonn. From 1972 he became member of the National Opera in Bucharest. He participated in many tours in Spain, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, the UK, Ireland, China, Korea, Singapore etc. , together with Romanian ensembles as well as ensembles from Chi sina u, and also as a guest artist in opera performances and vocal - symphonic concerts. His wide repertoire includes most of the operas meant for bass voice (over 50 roles, the most recent one being Boito 's Mephistopheles), as well as a large number of vocal - symphonic scores and vocal miniatures. Between 1979 - 1983, he was also a professor with the Film and Theatre Academy. Beginning with 1997 he has been a canto professor at the National Music University in Bucharest. He was awarded the Labour Order - First Class, Cultural Merit - Second Class, Romanian Star as well as prizes given by the ATM, Musical Critics Union and UNESCO - CNR.
