THE NATIONAL RADIO ORCHESTRA Established
in 1928 by Mihail Jora, it made its debut with concerts performed in 1932.
Among the musicians who succeeded maestro Jora as distinguished conductors,
we can mention Alfred Alessandrescu, Theodor Rogalski, Ionel Perlea, Constantin
Silvestri, Iosif Conta. The tenure of perma - nent conductor was held
by Emanoil Elenescu, Mendi Rodan, Paul Popescu, Horia Andreescu, while
George Enescu, Ion Baciu, Cristian Mandeal, Ovidiu Ba lan, Erich Bergel,
Constantin Bugeanu, Gheorghe Costin, Ilarion Ionescu - Galati, Emil Simon,
Sergiu Comissiona, Ion Marin have often guest conducted. It has collabo
- rated with all the Romanian celebrated soloists:Cristina Anghelescu,
Dana Bor san, Marin Cazacu, Gabriel Croitoru, Florin Croitoru, Valentin
Gheorghiu, Daniel Goiti, Dan Grigore, Pompeiu Ha ra steanu, Nicolae Herlea,
Florin Ionescu - Galati, Eugenia Moldoveanu, Alexandru Moro sanu, David
Ohanesian, Gheorghe Ro su, Maria Sla tinaru - Nistor, Ludovic Spiess,
Georgeta Stoleriu, Alexandru Tomescu, Ion Voicu, Ionel Voineag, etc. ,
as well as Radu Aldulescu, Vladimir Orlov, Mihaela Martin, Silvia Marcovici,
Mihaela Ursuleasa, Eugen Sârbu, Viorica Cortez, Ileana Cotruba s,
Ruxandra Donose, Angela Gheorghiu, Eduard Tumagian a. s. o. Many foreign
maestros have performed on the RNO stage:Igor Markevich, Willem Mengelberg,
Kurt Masur, Aaron Copland, Vaclav Neumann, Herman Scherchen, Leopold Stokowski,
Carlo Zecchi, Roberto Benzi, Lorin Maazel, Michel Plasson, Ghenadi Rojdestvenski,
Jin Wang, etc. The orchestra has performed with famous soloists such as
Aldo Ciccolini, Monique de la Bruchollerie, Emil Gielels, Jean Jacques
Kantorow, Gerard Opitz, Nikita Magaloff, Sviatoslav Richter, Leonid Kogan,
Radu Lupu, Nelson Goerner, Elisabeta Leonskaia, Francois Joel Thiollier,
Yehudi Menuhin, Gidon Kremer, David Oistrakh, Isaac Stern, Montserrat
Caballé, Placido Domingo, Eliane Coelho, Luciano Pavarotti, etc.
The numerous Romanian works it has performed (many of them being the first
perform - ance). The recordings for Radio and for the disks (acknowledged
by prestigious awards, including the Prize of the Academy Charles Cros,
Puerta del Sol - Uruguay, Koussevitzky - USA)and the week - ly concert
broadcast on national radio stations and often on EUR, as well as the
tours made in Europe, Japan, Turkey (the most recently in Rome, Brussels,
Haga)have built up the ensemble 's international reputation.
