LEONTINA VADUVA

Born in Bucharest, Romania, she has graduated from the National Music University in her hometown. She gained her international recognition after winning the Canto Competition in Toulouse in 1985. A year later, she made her debut, with great success, in Massenet 's opera, Manon, at the Theatre Capitole in Toulouse, under the baton of Michel Plasson. This led to her invitation at the Nice Opera, followed by the Comique Opera and the Bastille Opera in Paris, Covent Garden - London, with the same part, that soon became one of her favourites. She actually prefers the French repertoire, which she performs on stages in Europe, the US and South America (Bizet 's Les pecheurs de perles and Carmen , Les Contes d 'Hoffman by Offenbach, Gounod 's Romeo et Juliette and Faust (with Samuel Ramey), Mireille by Thomas, Les Dialogues des Carmelites by Poulenc - at La Scala, with Riccardo Muti). She also approaches Italian repertoires as well Mozart, in operas such as:L 'elisir d 'amore and Don Pasquale by Donizetti, Verdi 's La Traviata , Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart, parts performed in Madrid, Berlin, Hamburg, München, Buenos Aires, New York, etc. The artist takes part in concerts and recitals throughout the world, be it in France, Italy, Germany, Japan or Romania. Complete opera recordings or recital discs have been recorded by Leontina Vaduva with famous record companies:EMI, Erato, Virgin Classics, Teldec, Auvidis Valois, etc, under the baton of reknowned conductors - Kent Nagano, Alain Lombard, Antonio Pappano, Zubin Mehta, Sir Charles Mackerras, Placido Domingo. She is a Chevalier of The Order of Arts and Letters awarded to her by the French Government. In 2003 she was awarded the Romanian Star.
