Born in Bucharest, Romania, she has graduated from the National Music University in her hometown. She gained her international recognition after winning the Canto Competition in Toulouse in 1985. A year later, she made her debut, with great success, in Massenet 's opera, Manon, at the Theatre Capitole in Toulouse, under the baton of Michel Plasson. This led to her invitation at the Nice Opera, followed by the Comique Opera and the Bastille Opera in Paris, Covent Garden - London, with the same part, that soon became one of her favourites. She actually prefers the French repertoire, which she performs on stages in Europe, the US and South America (Bizet 's Les pecheurs de perles and Carmen , Les Contes d 'Hoffman by Offenbach, Gounod 's Romeo et Juliette and Faust (with Samuel Ramey), Mireille by Thomas, Les Dialogues des Carmelites by Poulenc - at La Scala, with Riccardo Muti).
