JOHAN KOBBORG

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, trained at the Funen Ballet Academy, he was admitted to the Royal Danish Ballet School in 1988 and promoted to soloist. Later, in 1994, he became principal dancer. He made his debut in Giselle , his first major roles being in The Nutcracker, The Kermesse in Bruges, followed by the leading parts in Coppelia, The Swan Lake, Don Quijote, Romeo and Juliet, Les Sylphides, A Midsummer Night 's Dream, Eugene Onegin, Le Corsaire, Paquita, Hamlet, etc. In 1993 he won the Gold Medal at the Erik Bruhn Competition in Canada. In 1994 he won the Grand Prix at international competitions in Jackson, USA and " Nureyev " , Hungary, being also nominated for his role in Les Sylphides in 1996. He has been invited to perform wth several renowned ballet com - panies in Europe (including La Scala - Milan), the US, Japan, Thailand, as well as appearing in various TV and video productions. Since 1999 he has been principal soloist of the Covent Garden Royal Ballet, also performing at the Opening Celebration of the Royal Opera House and in both classic ballets, as well as in pro - ductions signed by Fosythe, Makarova, Duato, etc. In 2001 he per - formed in The Swan Lake, Ondine, etc. , while in 2003 he made his guest appearance, together with Alina Cojocaru, in Giselle, at the Kirov Ballet. He has also created interesting parts in productions by Tuckett, Page, Bintley, etc. His performance in the Covent Garden Gala was broadcast by the BBC.
