THE CHORUS OF THE ROMANIAN RADIO SOCIETY

Was founded in 1940 under the direction of Ion Croitoru, and very quickly positioned itself as an elite company under choir masters Dumitru D Botez, Gheorghe Danga, Dumitru Stancu, Constantin Petrovici, Carol Litvin, Emanoil Elenescu, Alexandru Sumski and Aurel Grigoras who directed it for three decades. It has the reputation of being the best Romanian ensemble of its genre, with a vast reper - toire of vocal - symphonic and à capella concerts performed as part of the permanent season of the Radio Broadcasting Company as well as countless special recordings. It performed together with orchestras across Romania as well as with orchestras from Bulgaria, Italy, Germany, Spain, Greece, Cyprus and Israel as part of its highly acclaimed tours. Its impressive portfolio includes madri - gals, cantatas, oratorios, operas, poems, choral miniatures, includ - ing several Romanian classical and contemporary works (there are many Romanian composers who have written dedicated pieces for the choir). It has also been conducted by renowned maestros such as Sergiu Comissiona, Iosif Conta, Horia Andreescu, Ilario n Ionescu - Galati, Ludovic Bacs, Corneliu Dumbraveanu, Ovidiu Balan, Igor Markevich, Milen Nachev, Enrique Garcia Ascensio, Vakhtang Jordania, Sakari Oramo, Jin Wang, Rani Calderon, James Levine and others. Part of its recordings are on Electrecord vinyl disks.



At present the choir master is DAN MIHAI GOIA, born in Cluj, Romania, a graduate of the National Music University in Bucharest, class of Marin Constantin and Petre Cra ciun, member of the Madrigal Choir (1971 - 1995) which he even conducted on several occasions, and whose Deputy Director and second master he was in 1998. From 1997 he has been conducting the Orthodox Male Choral, Te Deum Laudamus , that has been on tour and has also recorded CD. He is a member of the Composer ' s Union, author of choir pieces, chamber music, the ballet Snow White , of a symphonic suite, etc. From 1990 to 2003 he was a professor at the National Music University as well as holder of a PhD in musicology. He i s the recipient of several awards among which the Union of Music Critics Award, the Cultural Merit Award class II, the Patriarchal Cross.
