MARQUEZ
Born
in Seville, Spain, he studied dance. In 1982 he joined the Spanish National
Ballet, becoming a principal dancer. During this period he had many important
parts in El Sombrero de tres picos, Bolero, Zapateado de Sarasate
etc. As principal dancer he participated in a few premieres together
with the Spanish Ballet in Madrid. Soon afterwards he performed as part
of Merche Esmeralda 's Murcia District Ballet. In 1993 he returned to
the National Ballet as a guest artist performing in parts especially created
for him, such as the final performance of the cycle Los Divinos
produced by RAI and TVE and broadcast worldwide. Other performances
included El amor brujo by De Falla, the Zarzuela Theatre production
dedicated to a famous bull - fighter (music by Turina), a special collaboration
with Isabel Pantoia in a production of Antena 3TV etc. In 1995 he set
up his own company, making the debut at Seville with the worldwide first
performance of the ballet Perpetuum mobile. After that he danced
together with his ensemble in El Sombrero de tres picos , for the
opening of the Royal Theatre in Madrid. As a choreographer he created
all ballet scenes in Bizet 's Carmen at the operas in Monte Carlo,
Athens and The Royal Theatre in Madrid. In 2000 he signed the choreography
for Don Quijote at the Paris Opera. He also presented his shows
at the Bastille Opera in Paris. Together with his company he toured Spain,
Portugal, Italy, Japan, Brazil (with an audience of 40. 000 people), Hungary
and France. He signed the choreography for Il Barbiere di Siviglia
(Monte Carlo), and also presented his own work Boda Flamenca ,
which he presented in 2002 in over 15 countries. e has been nominated
in The Golden Book of the History of Cuban Ballet (1998). He was
award - ed the Taranto Prize, The Prize of the Flamenco Jerez Festival,
The " Cultura Viva " National Dance Prize etc.
