ALINA COJOCARU

Born in Bucharest, Romania, she trained in Kiev for 7 years, and attended master classes at the London Royal Ballet School from 1997, after winning the Lausanne Prize Scholarship. She danced with the Ballet Company in Kiev (making her debut in Don Quijote, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Coppelia), returning to London in 1999, being promoted as principal dancer. Her succes with Giselle has led to her appointment in 2001 as a Principal of the Covent Garden Royal Ballet Company, where she appeared in The Swan Lake (as Odette - Odille), Romeo and Juliet (by McMillan), Don Quijote (by Nureyev), Eugene Onegin (by Cranko), La Bayadere (by Makarova)and others. She also made her debut recently in Mayerling, Gong, Les Sylphides , as well as in the title role in Manon (by McMillan). In 2002, she appeared on the Romanian stage for the first time, performing the leading part in Giselle with the ballet corps of the National Opera of Bucharest, returning in 2003 together with Johan Kobborg as part of the Ballet Gala of the International Festival " George Enescu " .
