Born in Bistrita, Romania, he graduated from the Film and Theatre Academy in Bucharest. Ever since his student years, he performed important parts in plays by Shakespeare, Strindberg and R. Stanca. After graduation he became a member of the Bulandra Theatre where he acted in plays by Cehov and Anouilh directed by Liviu Ciulei, at the National Theatre in Bucharest - in plays by Dostoievski, Eliade, directed by Ion Cojar, Horea Popescu. He also played and personally directed a play by Giraudoux at the Nottara Theatre and performed in a play by Pirandello directed by Dominic Dembinski. His repertoire also includes plays by:T. Williams and Shepard at the Romanian - American Theatre, directed by himself, Shakespeare at the National Theatre in Craiova, directed by Tompa Gabor, Medoff at the " 777 " Theatre Company, directed by Cristian Theodor Popescu etc. He played in many moving pictures and television produc - tions directed, among others, by Dinu Cocea, Mircea Veroiu, Carlos Aguira (USA Fullmoon Production), Bertrand Tavernier (French Little), as well as in BBC productions.
